A Utah truck driver was involved in a weekend accident that left a Washington motorcyclist dead on a Wyoming freeway.
Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman John Townsend said the accident occurred just before 3 p.m. Saturday on westbound Interstate 80, about 13 miles west of Elk Mountain, Wyo.
Kimber G. Hansen, 48, of Tremonton, Utah was driving a semitrailer rig when another truck hauling an oversized load passed him. Hansen told WHP troopers that he checked the passing rig's position and when he looked back he saw a motorcycle right in front of him.
Hansen told WHP he immediately braked but could not avoid hitting the bike and its driver, 68-year-old Donald D. Carriker of Longview, Wash.
After impact, Carriker and his motorcycle slid down I-80, coming to rest in the middle of the westbound lanes.
Carriker was wearing a helmet, but was dead at the scene of the accident.
Neither Hansen nor a 47-year-old woman passenger were injured.
Townsend said no citations were issued, but the accident report will be screened by the Carbon County Attorney's Office for possible charges.
