Please give it back

With failure of the latest re-use plan for the abandoned Granite High School in South Salt Lake City, there is one detail that needs to be talked about ("No happy ending for Granite High site as movie studio plan unwinds," Tribune, March 19).

In April 2011, the city signed a lease purchase agreement with Granite, and paid the district a $100,000, non-refundable deposit. Because our misguided city leaders' ambitious attempt to buy Granite High fell short, this money is being forfeited to the school district.

Granite legally can keep the money, but it would be a nice gesture to help Utah's poorest city by giving it back. Please.
