Congress overpaid

President Barack Obama announced that he will give back to the Treasury 5 percent of his salary ($20,000) because of the impact of budget cutbacks on federal workers ("Obama to return 5 percent of salary to Treasury," Tribune, April 4). Other officials in his administration are making similar cuts.

Now would be a good time for members of Congress to make the same sacrifice. Actually, for all the good they do for the country, they should return 50 percent of their salaries. They would still be overpaid.
