Utah forecast: Easing back into more typical spring

Shaking off recent high winds, rain and snow, Utah's weather patterns eased back into spring as the state entered the mid-week.

Northern Utah awoke to sunny Wednesday skies minus the gusts of up to 60 mph that pelted the region earlier in the week. More spring-like weather was forecast to continue on Thursday, too, with high temperatures warming into the mid-50s ahead of evening rain showers possible.

Southern Utahns, however, had a mixed climatological bag: highs near 70 degrees, but north winds rising from 10-20 mph Wednesday morning to 15-25 mph late in the afternoon. Highs on Thursday were expected to reach the mid-70s, but the region also looked for afternoon showers.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated breathability statewide as "Green," or healthy.

The Utah Avalanche Center rated the Uintas at "considerable" risk for dangerous backcountry snow slides, but the rest of the state's mountains earned "moderate" avalanche risk grades.

Salt Lake City's high temperature was pegged at 55 degrees Thursday, up from Wednesday's forecast for 52; Ogden looked for 55 and 52 degrees, respectively, as well; Provo 56 and 53; Logan 54 and 52; Wendover 59 and 60; Duchesne 56 and 49; Cedar City 60 and 52; St. George 76 and 69; and Moab 60 and 50 degrees.
