Howard Lemcke's "No more WVC police" (Forum, April 9) was uninformative. As a West Valley City resident, I am aware of the issues with our police department and have confidence our City Council will address them.

Lemcke's recommendation that West Valley City join the Salt Lake County Unified Police Department was addressed by voters in 1980 when they incorporated the city. I am sure today's UPD is first-rate, but the quality of West Valley's law enforcement since incorporation has been far superior to the county's prior to incorporation. The search for a quality police chief should continue.

I appreciate Lemcke's concern for our city, but his time would be better spent addressing his own Salt Lake City government's problem with the horrible road conditions on 1300 South between Main and 400 West. I've seen dirt roads in southern Utah that are smoother.
