A 54-year-old man died Thursday, the day after he was run over by his service truck in the parking lot of a South Salt Lake train yard.
Jerome "Jerry" Abele, of Salt Lake City, was under the hood of his heavy-duty rig, its engine running as he was trying to fix a mechanical problem, when the truck slipped into gear. The truck moved forward, knocking the man to the ground and then running over his abdomen.
He had undergone two surgeries at a hospital since the 12:50 p.m. Wednesday accident at 2765 S. Orlando Place (850 West), said Sgt. Britton Heddlesten.
But he succumbed to his injuries about midnight, said Sgt. Gary Keller.
