Water use abuse

It's long past time that Utahns seriously consider water conservation. Not only because of climate change, or our low snowpack years, but because we live in the West, in a desert.

We abuse our water supply. In the Old West water was for fightin' over.

We pride ourselves on the greenest lawns. We maintain timed sprinkler systems that run regardless of rainfall, and which allow pure drinking water to flow down the streets into drainage. My local Mormon meetinghouse just turned on is automatic sprinkler system — I measured an inch of rain last week.

Sprinkler systems need to be adjustable; water deep and once a week — it works.

Every conservation effort helps. Your efforts today ensure the future of your children. Wake up, Utah!
