A California woman was discovered carrying a loaded handgun in her carry-on luggage this weekend at Salt Lake City International Airport.

The firearm was discovered by Transportation Security Administration security screeners on Sunday.

The Long Beach, Calif., woman was cited for carrying a concealed weapon into a secure airport area. Her Glock 30 pistol was confiscated pending further proceedings.

TSA spokeswoman Lori Dankers said it was the 16th time this year an airline passenger in Utah was found to be in possession of a firearm.

In all of 2012, only 20 firearms were seized from airline passengers in the state.
