Worse than LA

Over a month ago, I visited my daughter and her family in Salt Lake City. They live in the Avenues and have a bird's-eye view of the city from their living room.

What we saw was most disconcerting. The entire city was enveloped in a grey cloud, a blanket of smog, the likes of which I had never seen in Los Angeles.

My grandchildren were coughing and sneezing. I noted the same phenomena in other children at the downtown library. We could only imagine the health conditions of the city's children at large.

When I attended the University of Utah years ago, this pollution did not exist. The freeway was only a dream then.

Whatever the causes of the smog, political action must be taken. We owe this to our children.
