Sugar House is growing, but in which direction? The city's streetcar project is a vital component to its growth.

Phase I of the project will directly connect Sugar House to the TRAX Central Pointe Station, but future phases could possibly unite this eclectic yet energetic borough to much more ("Salt Lake Council at odds over direction of streetcar route," Tribune, March 20).

Mayor Ralph Becker, many community members and Westminster College students agree that continuing the Sugar House streetcar north along 1100 East is the best option. That route allows for growth and benefits that will last well into the future.

The 1100 East proposed route has been dubbed the "purple line" by us students at Westminster (purple is a school color) who would love an easier and greener way to get to jobs and shopping downtown.

Help make the purple line a reality. Join us at the Sugar House Streetcar public hearing on April 23 at 7 p.m. in the City and County Building. Make Sugar House a better place!
