Illegal immigrants

We were misled in 1986, when Congress passed the amnesty bill for 3 million illegal immigrants.

We were promised secure borders, fines against employers hiring them and no chain migration. It would be the final and last amnesty ever given. It would solve our illegal immigration problem. None of these promises was kept.

Now, powerful and well-financed special interests groups, such as the Chamber of Commerce, Big Labor and Big Business, who benefit from illegal immigration, want more of the same.

Our immigration policy is dysfunctional. We spend billions on enforcement, but whenever illegal immigrants attain a large number (like the 11 million currently here), we eventually give what amounts to amnesty to those here illegally.

As long as the benefits and rewards for immigration violators are greater than the deterrents, they will keep coming. As long as employers keep hiring them, they will keep coming. As long as special interest groups control Congress, they will keep coming.

We should not fool ourselves into thinking this new proposed comprehensive immigration reform bill is a one-time fix. We will be doing this again.
