Utah gymnasts earn academic recognition

Utah's gymnastics team claimed five of the 12 spots on the First Team Pac-12 All-Academic team which was released Wednesday. Lia Del Priore (3.84, math teaching), Hailee Hansen (3.95, communications), Mary Beth Lofgren (3.9, Health-Ed), Becky Tutka (3.81, business) and Corrie Lothrop (3.7, Health-Ed) all made the First Team. Georgia Dabritz (3.64, undecided), Nansy Damianova (3.49, Mass communication) and Tory Wilson (3.65, Biology) all made the second team. The Utes left Wednesday for the NCAA Championships that start in Los Angeles on Friday. Utah is the 10th seed and will compete against Oklahoma, Alabama, UCLA, Michigan and Arkansas on Friday with the top three teams advancing to the Super Six. The Utes have qualified for every Super Six since 1999 and finished fifth the last two years. - Lya Wodraska
