Utah forecast: Cold snap a memory, warmer spring days ahead

Northern Utah expected Friday to break free of a cold snap that brought near record-low temperatures to the region earlier in the week.

Salt Lake City and rest of the northwestern quarter of the state awakened Thursday under a Hard Freeze Warning. The advisory was in place until 9 a.m. when the area was expected to shake off lows in the 20s overnight. A Hard Freeze Watch also was issued for much of the southeast quarter of the state through mid-morning.

The Wasatch Front, after warming to the low-50s on Thursday, looked for temperatures near 60 degrees on Friday, with rain showers expected to move into the region Friday night. Southern Utahns looked for highs in the upper-60s to low-70s on Friday, up 5-10 degrees from Thursday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated breathability in the "Green," or healthy range into the weekend.

Salt Lake City's high Thursday was pegged at 50, with a 60-degree reading forecast for Friday; Ogden expected 48 and 57 degrees, respectively; Provo 59 and 48; Logan 50 and 48; Wendover 58 and 49; Duchesne 52 and 41; Cedar City 58 and 47; St. George 71 and 62; and Moab 60 and 48 degrees.
