Empty suits

I've always believed that laws reflect a society's conscience. We have laws that do not tolerate murder, so when a murder is committed, justice is served to the extent possible.

Extended background checks on gun purchases, as well as criminalizing straw purchases of guns for people who would not pass the check, would have similarly shown society's conscience.

Instead, self-serving organizations and the politicians under their thumb undermined the attempt for a higher level of responsibility for those who own guns, as well as a lower burden for those of us who don't.

As one who has no interest in guns, I assume that the gutless politicians who ensured that my "rights" and concerns were considered will cling to defeat as a "victory," which I can understand, given their pathetic accomplishments as "lawmakers."

I couldn't be prouder of the leadership my president and those politicians, Republicans and Democrats, who attempted to address this ongoing issue of gun safety while protecting the "rights" of gun owners and non-gun owners.

I couldn't be more fed up with the empty suits who never offer viable alternatives but continue to embrace the status quo.
