I am sorry to have to inform Bill Spiva of some harsh facts ("Stewart and climate," Forum, April 18). The world is not flat. The sun does not revolve around the Earth.

And humans are changing the world's climate by putting unprecedented amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Spiva is intelligent, but he has been deceived by a small number of energy industry shills. The total number of Spiva's "many scientists" who deny global warming would fit on a small piece of paper.

Chief among them is Fred Singer, who, you may recall, was the chief "scientist" to deny that cigarettes caused cancer and that high-sulfur coal caused acid rain.

Singer will say whatever his overlords pay for. In short, Mr. Spiva, you have been had.
