Wow! Republicans, running scared from fringe National Rifle Association radicals, just thumbed their collective noses at 90 percent of the American people (even 80 percent in Utah) by killing the Senate bill to expand background checks for gun buyers! Not the thumbing by Mitt Romney of 47 percent, but 90 percent!

The close-minded, senseless actions of these nearly extinct dinosaurs seem to be never-ending. Almost daily, they take another step down the spiraling ladder to irrelevance and destruction: racial and gender bigotry; homophobia; protecting the super-rich with their corporate greed and abuse of power; throwing the middle class, elderly and poor to the wolves; denying climate change; obstructing non-fossil energy sources and environmental protection; oblivious to equality and social justice; champions of deregulation (Great Recession comes to mind); aliens to compromise. The list goes on and on and on …
