How to celebrate Record Store Day this Saturday in Utah

Tribune intern Billy Yang compiled a list of local Record Store Day events, and here is his report:

In the age of MP3s and instant downloads, National Record Store Day celebrates music in its most tangible form — CDs and LPs.It is held on the third Saturday of April — this Saturday — at independently owned record stores around the country. For the event, owners stock exclusive, limited-edition releases from musicians big and small. Here are some Record Store Day happenings in Utah.Graywhale • All stores will open early, 8 a.m. for "Killerwhale" members, 8:30 a.m. for the general public. The store near the University of Utah, 208 S. 1300 East, along with KRCL, will host a pancake cook-off from 7 to 10 a.m. and live music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Taylorsville store,1773 W. 4700 South, will have a meet-and-greet with the band Rise Against at 4:30 p.m. The Sandy location, 824 E. 9400 South, in conjunction with SLUG Magazine, will host a showcase featuring metal bands from 6 to 10 p.m.Groovacious • 173 N. 100 West, Cedar City. All music and merchandise will be 20 percent off. There also will be a silent auction for music memorabilia and live music from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.The Heavy Metal Shop • 63 Exchange Place, Salt Lake City. Doors open at 11 a.m. There will be live music by local artists throughout the day, including Chainsaw Kittens, Supersuckers, Throw Rag, Justin Townes Earle, Wayne Hancock, Dwarves, Michael Dean Damron and The Devil's Own.Music to the Maxx • 3090 N. Fairfield Road, Layton. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with all vinyl records on sale.Randy's Record Shop • 157 E. 900 South, Salt Lake City. One of the state's longest-running independent record stores will open at 10 a.m.Raunch Records • 1119 E. 2100 South, Salt Lake City. Live music performances will start at 6 p.m. and the store will stay open until 10 p.m. Raunch also will have special Record Store Day T-shirts available.
