Prep baseball: Taylorsville's comeback sinks Viewmont

Taylorsville • Forget the no-hitter, Viewmont pitcher Brendan Jensen had bigger things to worry about.

After dominating Taylorsville for six innings, Jensen found out that the Warriors are harder to get rid of than a Kardashian reality TV series.

Taylorsville's Zac Stepp singled in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to help the Warriors pull off a stunning 3-2 win.

"[Jensen] had us off-balance all day and had us guessing a lot," said Taylorsville coach Jake Brown. "It's great. It's nice to know your team competes but at the same time, you're playing with fire waiting until that late to get anything going."

Jensen fanned nine batters through six innings and had not given up a hit, but he surrendered a leadoff walk to Miguel Othon in the seventh. Wyatt Caso followed with Taylorsville's first hit of the game, a line drive up the middle.

Ken Atwood grounded out, but the runners moved up in the process. Jake Greenberg then singled in two runs to tie the game and took second on the throw home. It proved to be a fatal mistake for Viewmont, because after Jensen retired the next batter, Stepp slapped a 3-2 fastball through the left side of the infield to win the game.

"I've been having a rough stretch hitting lately, so I knew I was in a position where I had to succeed," Stepp said. "It felt good. It was an ugly game, but you have to win ugly games."

Viewmont (2-2) scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead. Parker Taggart singled and took second on a wild pitch. He trotted home when Isaac Evans squared up the hardest hit ball of the day, a blast to deep center field. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Travis Henderson's sacrifice fly that gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead but they soon found out why the Taylorsville is now 4-0 in region play.
