Utah splits doubleheader with No. 2 ASU

Mariah Ramirez went 4-for-6 and also pitched nine innings Sunday, helping the University of Utah softball team split a doubleheader against second-ranked Arizona State at Utah Softball Stadium.

The Utes won the first game 6-5 and lost the second 6-5 en route to winning the three-game series. Ramirez drove in a run in the first game and pitched two innings of the relief, then went the distance in the second game.

In the first game, Kristen Stewart drove in two runs for Utah (21-24-1, 6-12 Pac-12).

San Diego 5-3, Utah Valley 1-4 • Kylee Brinkerhoff went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap, allowing UVU (27-17, 9-7 Pacific Coast Softball Conference) to split the weekend series in San Diego 2-2.

Baseball

USC 15, Utah 10 (10) • The Utes (16-19, 5-13 Pac-12) rallied from an early eight-run deficit and tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Trojans countered with five runs in the 10th to win at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

Kody Davis, Trey Nielsen and TJ Bennett drove in two runs each for Utah.
