The recent Republican vote in the Senate on expanded background checks for gun purchases was a prime example of why we need public funding of elections. Rather than vote the desires of 90 percent of Americans, most Republican senators voted the wishes of the National Rifle Association.
In essence, the NRA bought the vote. Whatever happened to democracy?
There is irony in this. Since the election, Republicans have been thrashing about, trying to figure how to become more attractive to American voters. And then they thumb their noses at 90 percent of the public!
Is it possible that inadequate gun controls are why Republicans keep shooting themselves in the foot?
