Utah won the first meeting this season, but the hot Cougars are poised to tie the four-game nonconference baseball series, which continues Tuesday in Provo.
Utah (16-19) won the first game of the series 5-4 in 10 innings. BYU (19-15) rallied with four run in the top of the ninth to take a 4-1 lead. The Utes tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, then won the game on T.J. Bennett's walk-off single in the 10th inning to score Dallas Carroll with the game-winning run.
Utah went 2-2 last week, defeating Utah Valley in a midweek game before dropping two of three to USC. The Cougars, who have won eight of their last 10 games, haven't played since April 13 because of finals.
