Logan • A 22-year-old Providence man has been sentenced to six months in the Cache County Jail for threatening to carry out violence against several schools and businesses.
Kirby Alan Hivner was arrested in January and pleaded guilty to one third-degree felony count of making a threat of terrorism.
The Herald Journal reported the threats included one call that warned there would be a shooting at Mountain Creek High School.
Public defender Bryan Galloway told the judge Monday that Hivner made the calls out of "pure stupidity" and poses no real danger.
Deputy County Attorney Spencer Walsh said it's no laughing matter. The phone calls were made just a month after the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut.
Hivner apologized and said he's embarrassed by the incidents.
