Re "Swallowed up: Cloud over A.G.'s office will remain" (Our View, April 13):

Utah Attorney General John Swallow is merely a symptom, not the cause, of businesses pouring unlimited money into government to influence their interests.

Yes, Swallow learned well from St. George businessman Jeremy Johnson and Check City founder Richard Rawle how to create multiple companies and transfer ownership in order to hide where money comes from and goes to, like a three-card monte dealer shuffling and palming the money card.

Yes, Swallow has been recorded promising a businessman that he would, once elected, move the Utah Division of Consumer Protection under the attorney general's power and squash the problem.

However, the disease is inherent in society and government, and an ethical electorate can only try to inoculate itself against the worst symptoms through recall or impeachment. It's time to remove John Swallow from office.
