Utah cat killer sought in torture, slayings..

Provo police and the Humane Society of Utah are working together to end a rash of cat torture-slayings.

Police Lt. Matt Siufanua said that six dead and mutilated cats have been found over the past month in northwest Provo. In addition to their paws being bound with tape, the felines were strangled and burned; some of the animals also had been decapitated.

The Humane Society is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to a suspect.

It was not known if there was any connection to recent reports in southwestern Salt Lake County of several cats disappearing, only to be found later wounded or dead.

Under state law, perpetrators of animal cruelty and/or torture face up to a $5,000 fine and a maximum of five years in prison on a felony conviction.
