Just when did Great Salt Lake become the Great Salt Lake? What's next — the Utah Lake, the Bear Lake, the Sevier Lake, the Yellowstone Lake?

Considering how many times Great Salt Lake is mentioned in the local press, a considerable savings in ink and paper could be achieved by dropping the "the" and returning to the time-tested, shorter designation.
