Holding's legacy

I appreciated reading The Tribune's coverage of Earl Holding's passing away and would like to add a couple of thoughts.

It took Earl a while to consider whether to support the Winter Olympics. His decision to do so stemmed from his passion for doing the right thing and doing it properly.

Earl's Snow Basin Resort was the only site with the potential for meeting the specifications for the Men's Downhill. There was no alternative. No downhill, no Salt Lake Olympics.

Earl was by nature soft-spoken. But when International Olympic Committee delegations came to inspect the preparations, he would personally present the Snow Basin venue with such sincerity and enthusiasm that the visitors were visibly impressed.

Earl Holding's Olympics legacy lives on.
