As the No. 2 seed, the BYU men's tennis team was able to bypass the first two rounds of the West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships in San Diego.
Now the work begins.
On Friday, the Cougars (20-5, 7-1 WCC) will face the winner of Thursday's match between the No. 3 seed San Diego and the No. 6 seed Saint Mary's at 1:30 (MDT). BYU defeated both teams during the regular season.
With a 19-5 mark in singles play, junior Patrick Kawka and sophomore Francis Sargeant shared the best team singles record this year. Kawka is currently ranked No. 45 in the ITA national polls.
In doubles play, the two share the court at the No. 1 doubles position and also own a team-high 16 victories in 2013. The duo holds a No. 80 ranking nationally.
The winner of the tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
