Man accused of Utah triplemurder appears in court

West Jordan • David Fresques — who allegedly went room to room killing three people at a Midvale home in February — will get a preliminary hearing after his attorney has reviewed all the prosecution's evidence.

During a Wednesday scheduling hearing, public defender Lisa Remal told 3rd District Judge Mark Kouris that she is still awaiting a number of items from prosecutors, including many recorded interviews.

Kouris set another scheduling conference for June 6. At that time, the judge could set a date for a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors will present evidence to show there is probable cause for Fresques to stand trial.

Fresques is charged with three counts of aggravated murder, which carries the potential for the death penalty, and one count of first-degree felony attempted aggravated murder.

Fresques' family members were present at the Wednesday hearing. As Fresques exited the courtroom in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit, he looked to his mother sitting in the front row of the gallery. She told him, "I love you."

Family members of some of the victims also were present in court.

Fresques, a known gang member who goes by the moniker "Twisted," is accused of killing Omar Jarman, 35, Danielle Lucero, 26, and Shontay Young, 34. He allegedly shot and wounded Vickie Meyers.

The four were among a group of people staying at a house at 8286 S. Adams St. in Midvale, when Fresques allegedly showed up and started shooting people the morning of Feb. 12.

Police nabbed Fresques on Feb. 13 after a pickup truck he was driving hit a parked car in South Salt Lake. Davis Fotu, 33, was arrested March 10 and charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly giving Fresques the truck.

Metro Gang Unit Sgt. Lex Bell said at the annual Utah gang conference this month that the triple homicide was born of a violent feud between sets of the Barrio Small Town and La Primera gangs in Midvale.
