A man was in critical condition Thursday after driving at a high rate of speed into the back of a parked semitrailer truck in St. George, according to police.

Officer Derek Lewis said the driver, an 29-year-old man who was the only occupant of the car, was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The car was traveling northbound near 3424 South River Road when it rear-ended the rig just before 1 p.m.

Lewis said the crash caused extensive damage to the Honda Accord.
