Two riders injured when motorcycles collide on I-15

A collision between two motorcycles on northbound Interstate 15 near Bountiful left two people seriously injured on Saturday.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. when two motorcycles traveling together got too close and collided while traveling at about 70 mph, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jacob Cox said.

When the driver of the first motorcycle slowed for a passenger car, the second motorcycle hit it from the rear. The male driver of the second motorcycle and his female passenger fell into the other motorcycle and got their arms caught between a rear tire and the bike's frame, according to an initial accident report from UHP.

The 24-year-old man on the first motorcycle was able to stop without crashing. He was not injured and was wearing a helmet, UHP said.

Both the 22-year-old male driver of the second motorcycle and his passenger, 24, suffered lacerations to their arms, road rash and bruising, the UHP said. Only the woman was wearing a helmet, UHP said.

Both injured riders, whose names were not released, were transported to University Hospital, Cox said.
