SWAT officers from the Unified Police Department were negotiating Saturday night with a man who fired shots outside a Midvale home and then barricaded himself inside.

UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said a 911 caller reported the man was walking up and down the street, near 7600 South and 1000 East, with a rifle and then fired off several rounds into the air just before 9 p.m.

No one had been injured, Hoyal said at about 10:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, the man ran back inside his home and refused to respond to police, Hoyal said. He was believed to be alone inside the residence.

Police have not released the man's name.

In addition to the SWAT team, an armored tactical vehicle has also been called to the scene.

Hoyal said neighbors had been asked to stay inside their homes and away from windows.

Additional information about the incident will be posted when it becomes available.
