Spectrum Engineers has announced Pat Garey joined the firm as a principal electrical engineer. He has more than 22 years of experience in consulting, design and in the engineering of education, health care, commercial, institutional, governmental, municipal and industrial projects.

Blake Hamilton with the law firm of Stirba P.C. has been named the 2013 Young Lawyer of the Year by the Utah State Bar Young Lawyers Division.

BHB Engineers has promoted Nathan Miller and Marty Olson to associates. Miller joined the structural engineering firm as a project drafter while completing his education and became a project engineer in 2007. He holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree in civil engineering from Utah State University. Olson holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Utah. He started at BHB as a project engineer in 2006.

The Salt Lake City-based law firm of Snow, Christensen & Martineau announced that shareholders Bradley R. Blackham and Keith A. Call have been appointed to the board of directors. Blackham represents health care providers in malpractice lawsuits and pharmaceutical companies in mass tort litigation. Call represents large and small companies in business disputes. He also defends attorneys and other professionals.

McKinnon-Mulherin Inc., a Salt Lake City-based company that helps businesses with their corporate communication needs, has hired Nikki Hales as an instructional designer. Hales graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in business management. She earned an Instructional Systems Technology Certificate from Indiana University while working in the training Department of Fairchild Semiconductor.

Herm Medina has been promoted to Rocky Mountain regional design director for Young Electric Sign Co. Medina has more than 20 years of experience as an industrial designer, specializing in environmental graphic design for commercial, retail, sports, gaming and entertainment venues. He will be directing all work that passes through YESCO's Salt Lake and Denver design departments,

Sorenson Capital Partners, a Salt Lake City-based private equity fund that invests in small to midsized growth companies, announced the promotion of Mark Ludwig to managing director, Don Blohm to performance group operating partner and Peter Sturgeon to principal. In addition, Bert Roberts has joined the company as a vice president.

CampusBookRentals, an online college textbook rental company, has announced the appointment of Scott Klossner as its chief operating officer. Klossner brings more than 25 years of experience to the position and has been on its board since 2011. He previously served for nearly a decade as chief financial officer at online retailer Backcountry.com.

Kelly Maxfield, a volunteer and chairman of the board at Utah Food Bank, was presented the 2013 Excellence in Food Banking Award for Individual Volunteer Service at the Feeding America Network Executive Directors' Forum, held recently in Nashville. The award is given to the year's most distinguished volunteer from the 202 food banks nationally in the Feeding America Network.

The Les & Reva Olson family, founders and owners of the Les Olson Co., received the 2013 Heart and Lung Research Foundation's Legacy of Life Award for contributions to the well-being of others. In addition, John P. Burke, chief of clinical epidemiology for Intermountain Medical Center, LDS Hospital, Alta View Hospital and Riverton Hospital, was presented with the foundation's Legacy of Life Scientific Honoree Medallion for his efforts in critical care medicine, standardization of care, telemedicine and quality-improvement efforts. The foundation, a subsidiary of the Intermountain Research & Medical Foundation, gives the award at an annual benefit dinner that raises funds to advance cardiovascular and pulmonary health, not only in Utah, but worldwide.
