Catfish tend to get little respect here in Utah. Personally, some of my earliest memories of fishing involve whiskerfish at Utah Lake and later some big cats on the Bear River. Maybe the state's new catch and release record will earn catfish some respect, but I doubt it.In mid-April John Konzelman landed a 36-inch channel catfish at Cutler Reservoir. His catch beat the existing record by 2 inches. For comparison's sake, the Utah caught-and-kept record was 39 3/4 inches long and weighed 32 pounds and 8 ounces. Now that's a big kitty.
