Pioneer High School for the Performing Arts to showcase results of first year's work

Pioneer High School for the Performing Arts (a public charter school specializing in performing arts career training) will present "Best of PHS" this Saturday at 7 p.m. to showcase the results of this year's work.

The concert will be held at American Fork High School (510 N. 600 E. American Fork).

The concert will feature music, dance, and drama performances from some of the most talented high school students in the area.

"Pioneer High School is like no other performing arts program anywhere," said Derryl Yeager, the school's artistic director, said in a press release. "These students are getting the best training available, laying foundations for careers in the performing arts if they want them. The Best of PHS show will feature some of the great work they've been doing this year. We're excited to put a fun, upbeat variety show in front of the public, and thankful for the cooperation of American Fork High School with a perfect venue."

Tickets to Best of PHS are available at the door, or in advance by calling Pioneer High School at 801-869-8133. Prices are $10 for adults, and $5 for children under 12.Mr. Yeager (himself the director of the nationally renowned Odyssey Dance Theater company) is joined by the other academy directors at Pioneer, including Caleb Chapman, director of the celebrated Crescent Super Band (a band that will make its debut at Carnegie Hall later on in May). Mindy Smoot Robbins and Kym Mellen, each with television, film, and national touring credits, direct the school's musical theater and drama academies, respectively. Musician Sam Payne is the school director.
