Salt Lake City seeks federal funds for the Sugar House Streetcar. What? This is so sick and misguided that it is hard to fathom. However, it is true, according to the editorial, "Streetcar route: Make decision; get started" (Our View, April 28).
We as a country cannot fund our education system, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, our military, decaying roads and bridges or medical research yet Salt Lake City wants federal funding for its streetcar! What is wrong with this picture?
This proposed streetcar serves no federal purpose it is like a bridge to nowhere but it will certainly be nice for Sugar House. We Utahans, and our elected officials, decry wasteful spending of federal dollars, yet when it's our waste, it's OK.
None of our elected members of Congress should support such a waste of federal money. If they do, let us not hear any of them ever decry the waste in federal spending, since they are then the problem and not the solution.
