A 53-year-old bicyclist struck by a car in west Salt Lake City when he apparently ran a red light remained in critical condition Tuesday.

However, Salt Lake City police Det. Mike Hamideh said the man had shown some improvement since being taken to University Hospital about 9 p.m. Monday; doctors were reporting his vital signs had been stabilized.

The man, whose identity was still not being released Tuesday, was struck in the intersection of 500 South and 500 West by an SUV.

In addition to entering the intersection against the light, the man was wearing dark clothing and was not wearing a helmet.

Hamideh said it was not anticipated that the driver of the SUV would be cited.
