An Orem man was in custody Sunday morning after police said he stabbed one of his roommates three times during an alcohol-fueled assault.

Orem police said the 26-year-old was drinking with two men and a woman Saturday night when someone said something that upset him and he tried to punch his roommate.

Between them, the two male roommates were able to subdue the 26-year-old and took him to a bedroom to cool off, police said.

About 30 minutes later, the man emerged armed with a small knife and tried to attack the same man he had tried to punch earlier.

The other roommate tried to intervene in dispute, but in the process ended up getting stabbed twice in the arm and once in the stomach by the 26-year-old before managing to subdue him, police said.

The stabbing victim was treated at a local hospital and released, police said.

The 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia, intoxication and interfering, police said.

The female roommate, who was inside a bedroom when police arrived, was cited for allegedly possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, officers said.
