According to the annual survey of casinos by the American Gaming Association, America's nontribal casinos took in $37.3 billion from gamblers last year, an increase of 4.8 percent over 2011. It marked the second-highest total ever, second only to 2007 when casinos took in $37.5 billion.
Adobe shifts to
subscriptions
for software
Adobe Systems Inc. is moving to a subscription-based model for the software package it sells to designers, Web developers and video editors. The company that makes Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat will shift focus to Creative Cloud, which makes its software available through a monthly subscription that starts at $50 for individuals.
Company nixes Idaho cobalt mine
Formation Metals Inc.'s proposed Idaho cobalt mine has nixed its project for now because its chief executive said the price of the metal is too low and financiers want too much to lend it money. The project already had government approval and environmental groups' support and will proceed when prices rebound.
BMC software
agrees to sale
for $6.6 billion
BMC Software Inc. has agreed to be sold to a private investor group for about $6.6 billion in cash. The Houston-based maker of system management software said Monday that the deal is for $46.25 per share. That's less than 2 percent above Friday's closing stock price of $45.42. Shares also closed Monday at $45.42.
