A 59-year-old man was charged Monday in the death of an elderly Cottonwood Heights woman, who died after she was hit by a car backing out of a steep driveway.

Dan L. Eining was charged in 3rd District Court with criminal negligent homicide in the April death of Sheralyn Quinney. The charge is a class A misdemeanor and carries up to a year in jail.

Quinney died at Intermountain Medical Center due to complications from injuries sustained during the crash. She was 75.

April 9, Quinney was walking with her husband near 3600 East and 8200 South. The driver told police he did not see the couple until it was too late, officials said.

The woman was knocked down and hit her head on the concrete. Paramedics took her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery.

Her husband, also 75, was not harmed.

Eining was booked into the Salt Lake County jail then released in lieu of $2,500 bail.
