Natalie Maines, coming to Utah, on CBS this weekend

Singer-songwriter Natalie Maines, who won 13 Grammy awards as part of the Dixie Chicks, was never a big fan of the genre, she tells Lee Cowan in interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast May 12, 2013 on CBS. "No, it burned my ears," Maines tells Cowan, while laughing.

She will perform at Deer Valley on July 30. The Dixie Chicks, which includes sisters Emily Erwin and Martie Maguire, were critical darlings until 2003 when, while performing in London, Maines took a verbal jab at President Bush over the war in Iraq. She later apologized, and Three years later, they produced another Grammy-winning album. "When I went backstage after that, I don't know, I just was crying uncontrollably and I didn't know why," Maines says. "And looking back, I mean, it kind of felt like an end to a chapter." Maines has recently released a solo album, "Mother," which is decidedly different from the country music she performed with the Dixie Chicks. "To me, this is album is the most natural music I've ever made. This is what I like, what I listen to, what I grew up singing songs like," Maines says. She's less certain about the future of the Dixie Chicks. "I don't know what we are. Well, we're not over," she says, "but I don't know if there's new music coming."
