Provo • Abe Bobb allowed eight hits while striking out five in a complete-game victory, and Zach Turner hit a home run and had five RBIs as San Francisco beat BYU 10-1 in West Coast Conference baseball Thursday night.
BYU pitcher Desmond Poulson entered the game 6-1 with a 2.50 ERA, but was bombarded in the third and fourth innings, giving up nine hits and six earned runs.
Adam Law hit a solo home run in the ninth inning for the Cougars (24-19, 10-9), who were outhit 15-8.
Brad Zimmer had three doubles and three RBIs for the Dons (31-19, 15-8), who play Friday and Saturday in Provo.
Utah Valley 10, NYIT 3 • Willie Pratt, Mark Krueger, Riley White and Taylor Berg each had two RBIs as the Wolverines cruised to victory in the first of four games against NYIT in Orem.
Pratt and Krueger each hit a home run, and Greyson Bogden went 4 for 5 for Utah Valley (21-24, 12-5 Great West Conference), which scored six runs in the eighth inning.
Portland State 8, Southern Utah 0 (5) • In Pocatello, Idaho, Anna Bertrand allowed just two hits and the Pilots hit two home runs in the first round of the double-elimination Big Sky Conference tournament.
Kadi Henderson and Katie Olinger each had a hit for Southern Utah (16-33), which plays Sacramento State at 1 p.m. Friday.
Track and field
Utah State • Chari Hawkins scored 4,990 points to take fifth in the heptathlon at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. Hawkins led the competition after Day 1 and was the pre-meet favorite to win. Danessa Lyssy of Texas State placed first (5,522).
Southern Utah • Shaye Maurer scored 5,209 points to place second in the heptathlon at the Big Sky Conference Championships. Portland State's Joenisha Vinson was first (5,488).
