This year Crucial Fest 3 will feature 50 bands and performers performing in a variety of showcases throughout the week. The event culminates in all-day block party celebrating local artists, music, and eats.

Crucial Fest was designed to showcase the various talent in Salt Lake and bring together the multitude of art scenes in Utah, as well as helping support the arts community.

Jarom Bischoff and Thomas Kessinger, heads of the festival and sponsoring label Exigent Records, said that Crucial Fest serves a need.

"People into Crucila Fest are into underground music," he said of the fest, which hosts unsigned acts. "Warped Tour isn't into that anymore."

There will be about 70 bands performing over four days at different venues around the downtown area, with all of the acts, except for about a dozen, local.

"It's definitely good for the city," Kessinger said. "It makes Salt Lake City a place worth caring about."

Bands performing include Hurris & Gig, Dulce Sky, Hang Time, Palace of Buddies and Koala Temple.
