Wyler Smith hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning, but that was all the rally Utah could manage in its 3-2 loss to Washington on Sunday in college baseball action in Seattle.
Tyler Relf singled in the ninth before Smith, who went 3-for-4 on the day, hit his first career home run over the left-field fence with two outs. The Huskies made a pitching change and got the last Utah batter to pop out to end the game.
Tanner Banks (1-5) took the loss for Utah, giving up seven hits and two earned runs in 62⁄3 innings.
The Utes (17-28, 6-21 Pac-12) next play at BYU on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
