Blacksburg, Va. • Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver says the Hokies are adding a women's golf program.
Weaver says the team will begin competition in the fall of 2015 and share the school's Pete Dye River Course used by the men's team.
It will become the school's 22nd intercollegiate athletic program.
Weaver says he hopes to hire a coach by July 1, giving the coach time to recruit a class to enroll in the fall of 2014 and redshirt before competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the spring of 2015.
Women's golf will be the first sport added at Virginia Tech since softball was added in 1995.
