A woman remained in critical but improving condition Thursday, the day after she was injured in a two-car crash at a Riverton intersection.

Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said the 54-year-old woman had been listed in extremely critical condition after her westbound white Geo Metro was struck by an eastbound white Ford F-350 pickup truck making a left turn to go north on 2700 West from 12600 South about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The collision left the woman, whose identity was not released, trapped inside her crushed car. Emergency crews had to cut her free of the wreckage before transporting her to the hospital.

As of Thursday morning, the woman's vital signs had been stabilized.

No other injuries were reported.

The 37-year-old female driver of the pickup truck was not cited, but the accident remained under investigation, Hoyal said.

The crash forced closure of the intersection for more than two hours while UPD officers investigated and wreckage was cleared.
