Calvin Black, fisheries biologist with the DWR in Southeast Region, sent in this report from trend net survey sampling at Scofield Reservoir earlier this week. Thanks Calvin.
During the annual trend net survey at Scofield Reservoir the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources found good numbers of cutthroat and tiger trout. The two largest fish of the day were a 29-inch 8.5 pound tiger trout and a 24.5-inch 6 pound cutthroat trout. Eighteen to 22-inch cutthroat trout were abundant in the nets with numerous smaller trout in the ten to 15-inch size class being collected. Anglers have had great luck of the shore this spring for large tiger trout. Numerous 24-28 inch tiger trout have been caught using chub meat. Fishing success should increase in the next few weeks with warming temperatures.
