Soccer: Portland salvages 2-2 tie with Vancouver

Vancouver, British Columbia • Second-half substitute Jose Valencia scored in the 83rd minute to give the Portland Timbers a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.

Former Real Salt Lake midfielder Will Johnson also scored for Portland and assisted on the equalizer to help the Timbers (4-1-7) extend their unbeaten strike to 10 games. The tying goal came while Portland was playing with 10 men due to Mamadou Danso's ejection 2 minutes earlier.

Camilo had a goal and an assist, and Gershon Koffie also scored for the Whitecaps (3-4-4), who are 3-0-3 at home.

Crew 1, Toronto FC 0 • Dominic Oduro scored late in the first half to help Columbus win on the road.

Union 1, Fire 0 • In Chester, Pa., Jack McInerney scored his league-leading eighth goal in the third minute and Philadelphia made it stand up in a victory over Chicago. McInerney headed home a corner kick from Sebastien Le Toux for Philadelphia (5-4-3), which beat the Fire 1-0 for the second time in a week. —
