Utah forecast: After wet weekend, a drying trend ahead

Utah's wet weekend is giving way to drier conditions as the new week gets underway.

The National Weather Service predicted Tuesday along the Wasatch Front would feature partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the upper-70s, after a forecast for Monday calling for diminishing thunderstorms and rain showers and highs in the mid-60s.

That warmer and drier trend came in the wake of a cool and rain-laden weekend in northern Utah. The NWS reported that the Wasatch Mountain valley town of Liberty recorded 2.1 inches of rain over a 48-hour period ending Sunday night. Brigham City came in with nearly 1.9 inches, while South Ogden measured nearly 1.7 inches of rain and Bountiful and Ogden 1.5 inches each during the period.

Salt Lake City, meantime, measured 1.02 inches of rain over the weekend.

Southern Utahns expected partly cloudy skies and highs approaching 90 degrees on Tuesday, up about 10 degrees from Monday's forecast.

The Utah Division of Air Quality put up its "Green," or healthy air banners statewide into the mid-week, while the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma index showed mulberry pollen "very high," with oak, maple, sycamore and grass at "high" levels.

Salt Lake City's high temperature Tuesday was pegged at 79, up from Monday's 66-degree forecast; Ogden looked for 75 and 65 degrees, respectively; Provo 79 and 69; Logan 76 and 64; Wendover 78 and 70; Duchesne 72 and 64; Cedar City 79 and 68; St. George 91 and 83; and Moab 79 and 72 degrees.
