Monday on TV: "Motive" tries harder to be different than it tries to be good

The twist in the new crime drama Motive (9 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4) is that we know who both the victim and the murderer are from the beginning and learn the motive over the course of the hour.It's not a bad show as procedural crime dramas go. But it also feels like it's trying too hard to be different and not hard enough to be better than "not bad."

Also tonight, CBS has pulled the scheduled season finale of Mike & Molly and will instead air a repeat (8:30 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2). The season finale features a plot about a tornado, and the network is worried it will seem insensitive given the string of deadly tornadoes in recent days. It will air the tornado episode ... eventually.
