Three recent 'The Voice' contestants with Utah ties to perform May 22 and subsequent tour

What happens after "The Voice"?Sometimes, not much, even if you win.But three recent contestants with Utah ties on the NBC-televised singing competition will perform May 22 at an open house for a new artist development company for musicians in Draper, and the three acts — Midas Whale, Ryan Innes and Amy Whitcomb — will announce a tour sponsored by the new company.Each of the three Utah-based artists advanced relatively far in the competition before being eliminated, so they are hoping to capitalize on being lauded by Usher, Shakira, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton."That exposure, you can't buy it," said Innes.The tour is one of the first forays by Refinement Records, which was created less than a year ago by musicians Adam Reader and Patrick Coffin, who each are members of local band The Terks. While Refinement Records has not signed any of the acts to a record deal, the tour will be sponsored by the local company.Reader said his company, which used to be called Music for the Masses, is designed to help Utah musicians learn how to not only play better but market themselves better."We want to give everyone an opportunity, and help people become independent on their own," Reader said.Musicians in Utah could do worse than to take a few lessons from Reader and Coffin, who have also recruited Utah County rock band Fictionist to join the contestants on the tour.The Terks, which is capable in any genre from jazz to rock, won the 2011 eWorld Music Awards as one of the top indie bands in the country. Since then, they have shown that you can still be an independent artist and tour around the country with sizable success, all on their own terms with a grass-roots approach.Reader said that when a new artist or an established singer or musician comes through the door at their new facility, they will find everything they need to improve their careers. Adding to Reader and Coffin's experiences are several Grammy and Emmy award winners as advisors and board members ready to lend their expertise. The new facility includes sound rooms, recording rooms, a video room with green-screen features, workshop space and a stage. Among the experts who will be working with Refinement Records is Andrew Lane, a producer who has produced records by the likes of Drake, Britney Spears and Lil Wayne that have sold more than 50 million albums. Also on the board is Tom Trbovich, who has worked with Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, the Eagles, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, and Ray Charles. "We also have professional workshops that are taught by industry pros from Grammy winners to top hit songwriters," said Reader. Among the experts who will be working with the Refinement Records team is Andrew Lane, the Billboard-winning producer who has produced records that have sold in excess of 50 million copies. Lane has worked with Drake, Brittany Spears, Lil' Wayne, and Tony Braxton, as well as the Hannah Montana and The Princess Diaries productions. Tom Trbovich has produced and directed "We Are the World" shows and has worked with Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin and Fleetwood Mac. He was also the director of the 1985 music video for "We Are the World."But Reader knows that promotion needs to be accompanied by a big bang, which explains his work in attracting contestants from "The Voice" to appear at his open house. "We want to show the talent Utah has," he said.

The open house, at 12244 S. Business Park Dive in Draper, at Refinement Records is open to all between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 22.
